Why the glass changes the camera

The forward-facing camera looks through the windshield, so the windshield is part of its optical path. Glass thickness, curvature, refractive index, and the exact position of the camera bracket all affect what the camera sees. Replace the glass and every one of those variables shifts slightly.

The systems will often appear to work. Lane keep assist will still nudge the wheel and adaptive cruise will still follow traffic. They will just be wrong by a margin you cannot perceive until the moment it matters.

An angular error of one degree translates to meaningful lateral and longitudinal error at distance. In practical terms: automatic emergency braking that initiates late, or lane centering that tracks slightly off-center on a curve.

The paperwork matters

Ask for the printed calibration report. It documents that each affected system passed its manufacturer tolerance check on a specific date. That report matters at resale, and it matters enormously if the vehicle is ever involved in a collision where the performance of a driver assistance system is examined.
